A January Update

Oh wow, January is already over! I wanted to update this blog at least once a month, and I almost missed the mark for January. Not a great start for the new year, lol. So far, 2013 definitely has a different feel because I'm 'back' in school. It's only for one class, but it sure is time consuming!

Chemistry

This thing weighs a ton!
I'm actually quite enjoying the course. It's not that hard, but I've been so out of tune with science that I just don't catch on as quickly as I do with, for example, reading analytical essays. However, everything is perfectly logical and they really do make sense, so I basically just need to get my brain running back to science speed.

If any of you are wondering why I'm taking chemistry, it's because I've decided to fine tune my career path into 'art conservation'...That's the goal for now (it might change as I go along), but in the meantime, I need to get my pre-reqs which mean chemistry!

Books

In my last post, I mentioned all the books that I got for Christmas.  I put 'The Casual Vacancy' and 'Wicked' aside, and instead decided to devour these three:

I loved them all! Especially 'The Book Thief'. It's technically a Young Adult book, but it deals with such awesome mature themes. I highly recommend it. The writing style's a bit weird to get used to in the beginning, but once you get into the flow, the story just unfolds. I actually miss some of the characters; they're really vivid. And I loved the ending, even though it's kind of tragic.

Kafka on the Shore also had some great characters, but I honestly most appreciated the mystery in it. The events were rather surreal at times, and the shifting narrators was a really interesting touch... I love how this author writes, but I can understand why it wouldn't necessarily be everyone's cup of tea.

Finally, The Fault in our Stars. It's very good, but I can't shelve it as one of my faves. I still like Papertowns the most. But I'd also recommend it. ^_^

Fabric Giveaway Remnants

I hosted a giveaway on all this fabric that my aunt dumped onto me, and although I gave away most of it, there was nearly an entire other bag of fabric that I didn't go through at the time I made the original post. Anyways, I finally went through it and rolled them up in very nice bundles, but I don't think I'll be giving them away online. It just became too much work because on top of all the communication and shipping quotes, I had to go out of my way on many seperate occasions to ship the stuff (because people wouldn't pay at the same time, and I didn't want anyone to wait.)

Anyways, so now that they're all bundled, they're much easier to store. I'm going to put them aside, and give them away at cons... I'm actually thinking of hosting my plush-making panel at Otakuthon next year, so I'll be able to give these out as gifts to people who attend. It was kind of fun to mix/match all the colours. Here are some of my faves:

At the rate that time is flying, Anime North is going to come so soon! o_0
